Thankfully the Irish water debacle has proven once and for all that registering is for the sole purpose of making you a customer.This is why Inland Fisheries Ireland are looking for an angler and boat register/database/identity card for the purposes of charging you a fee.They tell us its for development etc etc and of course we are expected to believe this rubbish and say nothing but sadly for IFI their bosses in Fine Gael & Labour have exposed what registration is really about with their whole backflip with PPS numbers, costs etc.So what anglers are going to believe or register as an angler with IFI or believe the spin from the Depts Fine Gael / Labour ministers. REMEMBER THIS BELOW FROM PAT RABBITTE, BUT IT ISNT A LICENCE. There was widespread positive reaction to proposals at the public meetings and I am happy to advise the Deputy that a significant number of angling representative bodies have expressed their support to me for the broad proposals. The submissions received in the course of the public consultation sessions are available on the Departments website, The themes which were the subject of the consultation process included: - proposals to address the complex fishery ownership and title issues and to reform the fisheries rates system; - the funding needs for the sector including provisions to enable the possible introduction of a single angling contribution to the development and protection of the resource; - the introduction of an angler identification system; - simplification of offences provisions in existing legislation; - the establishment of an Inland Fisheries Reserve to replace the current water-keeper system.
