Thanking God for all his blessings and another day! Today is: Greenpeace Day: The now internationally renowned campaign organisation for ecological issues was originally founded by a group of 17 activists in Vancouver protesting against off shore nuclear testing in Alaska on this date in 1971. Since then, Greenpeace has achieved an abundance of victories over eco-crimes, as well as making an enormous contribution to raising awareness of environmental issues across the globe. Be inspired by Greenpeace today: sign petitions and encourage others to do the same, be green in the home and out and about by switching off unnecessary light bulbs and throwing that empty wrapper on the street in the bin. Think bigger and look into volunteering and helping raise awareness for Greenpeace issues. Finally let Greenpeace Day act as a reminder that as the anthropologist Margaret Mead once put it: ‘Never doubt that a … group of committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has’. Gotcha Day: (sometimes called Adoption Day, Family Day, Adoption Anniversary Day) celebrates the day that the child was placed into the familys home for adoption, in other words, the day the family Gotcha. It is the most celebrated of adoption related events. In her book, The Joy of Family Rituals, Barbara Bizou wrote, Gotcha Day is designed to show your adopted child how much you wanted him and that every year you continue to cherish him. Make a Hat Day: a day for fun. Design, make, and wear your a hat for yourself today. Put your personality into it. Or, make a hat from a character you would like to imitate for a day. This day is very popular with preschool, kindergarten, and grade school teachers and students. Early in the new school year, teachers look for fun and interesting projects to break up the classroom routine, or for art projects. Kids, who love arts projects by nature, can use their creativity in making a hat that fits them! National Thank-You Day: We should all remember to be grateful for all the little things in life everyday. In case we are busy and forget, Today is the designated day of the year when we remember and thank every one who has made a difference in any way – big or small. We should also remember to appreciate people who love us and do things to support us and make our lives more comfortable and easier to live. Even though people may get paid to do things for us, it is still a good idea to thank them for their services and help. It is quite common for people to get caught up in their busy lives and to forget to be grateful for things like our health, our friends and family, co-workers, neighbors, acquaintances etc. National Linguine Day: (often misspelled “Linguini”) is a long, flat, narrow type of pasta. It is most commonly used in seafood or pesto dishes such as linguine alle vongole (“linguine with clams”). Linguine, which means little tongues in Italian, originated in the Liguria region of Italy. Take a moment to imagine you’re there at one of the local trattorias, taking in the wonderful aromas of good, hearty pasta dishes! So... release your inner activist and get passionate about the environment. Hug your adopted children, make a hat and wear it! Go out there and use this day to say Thank You to all the people who have impacted your life in any way. Have a favorite linguine dish? Serve it up tonight! Whatever you do, make it fun! If you happen to see Tracy Brannen Williams, Gordon Shell, Amanda Nicki Blooze McCants, Cara DeFelice or Karen Scheller be sure to wish them a Happy Birthday! I love yall! Have a great Monday!
