Thanks Ann McLaughlin for giving me #8. Here are 8 things you might not know about me: 1. I’m an only child of an only child of an only child with an only child. 2. I’ve never been drunk or high. Tried to get drunk in college to see what it felt like and literally couldn’t choke down the drinks fast enough to get drunk. 3. I inadvertently dropped a bunch of weight in my early 20’s (depression and being on a prescription decongestant that I didn’t realize had amphetamines in it) and it took me a long time to adjust mentally. I picked up clothes 4 sizes too big and identified as a “bigger” person for almost 2 years after that. 4. I have had an intense fear/phobia about getting a chronic, debilitating illness for most of my life. I am a total hypochondriac and every time I feel a twinge, cramp or anything weird, I’m convinced I have cancer/lupus/etc within about 2 minutes. I also don’t like anything about not being able to breathe, like movies about space or underwater accidents or being buried alive. 5. I had been sure I was going to be a doctor from the age of 5 until the summer before my senior year in college when I did an internship with a doctor and hated it. Wish I had figured it out earlier so I could have taken more medical anthropology and sociology classes instead of 2 years of chemistry and a summer taking calculus (and an EMT training course). 6. I have only thrown up once in my life. I got sun poisoning when I was 5 from a severe sunburn and barfed in our friends kitchen as I was coming in to ask for my 4th popsicle. 7. When Simon was 6 weeks old, I flew to Vegas with the burlesque troupe I was in at the time, Twilight Vixen Review to perform in Miss Exotic World. The weekend was kind of a trainwreck b/c the show was outside and SUPER windy. We basically ended up eating our feathers and praying our backdrop wasn’t going to come crashing down on us. We also didn’t really go out and pretty much stayed in our hotel rooms b/c we couldn’t handle the secondhand smoke everywhere but it was worth it to get to tell my great grandchildren that I was once a Vegas showgirl 8. My paternal grandmother raised me to be VERY proper and sent me to a week-long “White Gloves and Party Manners” class when I was 8. I still remember everything I learned but I prefer to be totally gross and crude. I can belch the word “anaphylaxis” and am notorious for saying “that’s what she said” after pretty much everything.
