If you do, youre paying for the Addison County Natural Gas Pipeline, whether you want to or not. On Tuesday, Vermont Gas Systems notified the Department of Public Service that the projected cost of the Addison Natural Gas Pipeline has risen 40%, from $86 million to $121.6 million. This pipeline is being financed by the public--current Vermont Gas ratepayers--you and me and all our neighbors--but does nothing to benefit existing customers. Vermont Gas continues to exploit ratepayers to finance fossil fuel infrastructure expansion in the face of ever-growing economic and ecological crisis. The price of gas has fallen, but instead of passing those savings on to us, theyve squirreled them away in a special fund that theyre using to build this pipeline... which will not serve or benefit *any* existing customers. A $35.6 million cost increase is simply unacceptable. This project is not in the public good. If you have a bill from Vermont Gas, please sign and share this petition to the public service board demanding that the board re-open the permitting process for Phase 1 and halt construction on the pipeline in light of the recent cost increase.
