Thanks, Faith. BLACK PAST PHOTO OF THE DAY: Next time you eat fruit, vegetables, meat or any other perishable item requiring refrigeration, say a kind word or two about Frederick McKinley Jones, the African American who invented the refrigeration system for long-haul trucks. Born in 1893 in Ohio, and orphaned at the age of nine, Jones went on to become a prolific inventor. Among his patents and accomplishments: the automatic ticket-dispensing machine used at movie theaters; co-founder of Thermo King, which is now a unit of Ingersoll Rand Company; and, inventor and patent holder of the two-cycle gas engine. In 1991 - 30 years after he died of lung cancer - Jones was posthumously awarded The National Medal of Technology, making him the first African American to receive the award.
