Thanks, Karen and Beverly, for sharing your recent through trip. Completed Pittsburgh to D.C. (did other direction in 2012, so wanted to try the west to east option). Had a little rain, a little thunder & lightning, a little mud, but all in all, weather and trail pretty good - as long as you like hot and humid (which we do)! A few thoughts. We really enjoyed the train station in Myersdale. We got there too late the first trip, so were glad it was open this time. Fascinating combination of Myersdale history/museum, train history/museum, and trail visitors center. We spent over an hour there and Id love to go back. Dennis at bike shop in Hancock was great - fixed my tire (belt broke) for reasonable price and let us hang out at his place while we waited for one of the thundershowers to pass. Stayed in Little Orleans lodge. Sheets and bathrooms were clean and the French toast was awesome. Additionally, as Bills place was closed, so we didnt have any supper. Steve drove us to a convenience store/deli so we could get something to eat. Not the Taj Mahal, but Steve took very good care of us. Biggest misadventure: we had to ride from Whites Ferry to D.C. (after riding to the Ferry from hotel) and then across D.C. to catch the 4:00 train back to Pittsburgh. We built in time for glitches, and made it to the 0 mile marker in plenty of time, then figured on a 30 minute ride to train station. However, we never thought about the fact that it was Independence Day weekend in the nations capitol, and there were about a zillion people in D.C. - and it seemed they were all between us and the train station. It was very stressful trying to maneuver through the crowds and get there in time to get our bikes boxed and in baggage in time. But we made it, and our first train ride was fabulous. All in all, a marvelous time.
