Thanks Lisa Best for sending us the email that was sent to the appointed representatives Dear all. Many thanks for offering yourselves as local representatives for the road improvements to Upper Drive and Swievelands Road. We think that it was a successful meeting with about 120 people attending. There was a full and frank discussion about the problems of the state of Swievelands Road and Upper Drive. It was generally accepted that to expect the few households in Upper Drive and Swievelands Road to fund major road repairs on their own was unreasonable. A major benefit would be gained by the much larger number of people who lived in the adopted side roads. It was accepted in a vote that those present would support a reasonable contribution from these other residents. We are awaiting Contractors cost estimates from the Borough’s Head of Highways, Garry Warner, of making up the roads to full Council Adopted Road specification, which would then be maintained by the Council and the alternative of less expensive repairs which would not be as long lasting. It was sensibly commented that improving the roads, particularly to full "adopted" standards would increase the house values in the roads directly affected and the side roads. It was very encouraging to have 18 people put themselves forward to represent their roads at future smaller scale meetings. We anticipate that these meetings will be held in The Valley Hall, Sunningvale Avenue as soon as we have some information to discuss with you. This can be an evening meeting or a Saturday morning, we will put both options forward, suject to the availability of the Hall. We wil be in touch in the near future.
