Thanks Mark for sharing what Bill has written. I, too, serve a very understanding fellowship. But there are always a few in every church that have no the emotional toll a funeral takes on the life of the pastor. I conduct a number of folks I do not know, because I believe even those without a pastor deserve a decent funeral and because it affords me the opportunity to share the hope I have in Jesus. Even these funerals are taxing both physically and emotionally but Im thankful that God allows me to serve many in this capacity. I actually had a grieving father of an 18 year pour out his heart to me this evening and thanking me for agreeing to help his family in this hour of need. The funeral will be Saturday (my day off) . . . it will take much time before then, comes on my day off, but I believe this will give me an opportunity to share Christ with a grieving family and many questioning young people . . . we do what we do because we care and because we believe people need the Lord especially in the darkest valley of life. I hope many people read what Bill has written and will support and encourage their pastor in such times. May God give strength to my fellow pastors as they serve in His name!
