Thanks Shruthi and Arpit. Heres my book bucket. Sorry for the tardiness. 1. Upanishads (Ish, Ken, Kath, Prashna, Mundak, Mandookya) It can be a little difficult to understand the figurative meaning of the original Sanskrit verses sometimes. So, keep the Max Mullers translation (for the literal meaning) and Swami Satyanands commentary (for the figurative meaning) nearby. A dictionary will be useful. I prefer not to read the commonly available Gita-press translations. Many translators have the tendency of presenting a highly romanticized and a deceptively flawless picture of these texts. 2. Dickens - A Tale of Two Cities, David Copperfield, Great Expectations, Hard Times, Oliver Twist. I love the way he describes emotions, nature, love, life and the passage of time. Reading his books feels like growing old with the characters. 3. The Penguin Book of Twentieth-Century Speeches - Brian MacArthur. One word - Goosebumps. An amazing collection of speeches, those that could alter the course of our history… 4. Einstein - Ideas and Opinions This guy... was more than just a Physicist. 5. An Excursion in Mathematics I wont say that its the best Maths book Ive ever read, but it was sufficiently intriguing for a newbie novice wannabe mathematician. 6. Faust - Goethe I read the one translated by John R. Williams. 7. Selected poems of Rumi. Pure love, ecstasy and devotion. Id also suggest those written by Guru Gobind (Jai Tegang is perhaps my favorite poem... of all times). 8. Popular science books: Symmetry (Weyl), The Grand design (Hawking), The tell-tale brain (Ramachandran), Surely youre joking... (Feynman). 9. Words of my perfect teacher - Patrul Rinpoche The book that introduced me to Buddhism… (Just remember that the teacher may not be all that perfect). 10. (And I cant miss...) Raj comic-books. These guys used to be seriously cool in the good old days. Such a pity that Hindi comics could never enter the mainstream recreation business. 11. Lord Jim - Joseph Conrad 12. 50 facts that should change the world - Jessica Williams. 13. And yes, Im a Sherlock Holmes fan.
