Thanks Timothy Bair for this info... I have a story of interest along this line... For years the Colonial Golf Tournament has been held just a few blocks from my house. It is a hugely popular event, the blimp flies overhead, restaurants are packed, it is amazingly busy and great for Fort Worth. But parking is limited...very limited. Around the golf course, there are many homes with huge lawns. So residents started renting out their lawns for parking. For $100 per day, you could park your car somewhere safe within walking distance of the country club. Im sure the owners of the lawns not only saw it as a community service, but also a profitable one. Until the IRS started sending out agents, taking down addresses and license plate numbers. Excuse me, Mr. IRS PERSON, but dont you have better things to do, like collecting the back taxes from the 318,462 Federal Government workers who owe $3.8 BILLION in unpaid tax liabilities? So the IRS started treating homeowners like La Cosa Nostra criminals, attempting to shut down the enterprise altogether. But wait, the story gets even better!! So someone at the Fort Worth Parks and Recreation decided parking was a great enterprise. So this year they put up huge hard-sided tents with refreshment wagons and misters and, you guessed it, paid parking at our largest city park just a few blocks from the club. So let me get this straight. Fort Worth is big into attracting all types of business events like the rodeos and now the Colonial. But the city builds or develops these huge facilities, on public property, with taxpayer funds, charges the going rates, enlists the IRS to try to shut down competition, and denies access to the taxpayers who provided for the space. And after the event is over? Pays city workers to clean up the mess, take down the facilities, and then RE-SOD over one square mile of city park!! All on the taxpayer dime! See? Isnt government just great? Arent we taxpayers just so fortunate to have such an enterprising city? :/
