Thanks and farewell. As some of you know I have been around for - TopicsExpress

Thanks and farewell. As some of you know I have been around for a long time and mostly keep my opinions to myself or at least not plastered over public forums. I had intended writing up an article for the 20th anniversary of Magic last year, but events outside my control prevented me from following through on this despite significant work on collating my thoughts. So now I will just fall back to thanking everybody who has ever attended one of the many events I have run over the years, either as a Player/Judge/Parent. Without you all I would not have as many fond memories of my 20+ years of running events all over this country, and beyond. Thank you especially to all those who attended this past weekends Players Championships in my store. Hopefully the event lived up to your expectations. Thanks to everybody who helped run it, without you all tournaments would never happen. Most of my best memories of Magic do involve travelling to events like this....where people from all over the country get together to test their skills, trade, make new friends. Which partially is why I am sad that many current players do not travel to other places to enjoy what other cities have to offer. Hell even last year I heard some players complaining about having to travel cross town to play an event where the winner got a trip to represent NZ at the Magic World Cup...... One of my fondest memories from days long gone is playing Magic at my place with a friend on a Thursday night, and over the course of the night we decided lets go to the tournament on Saturday... , so we jumped in the car and drove from CHCH to Picton, jumped on the ferry, met up with a couple of Wellington players, and drove with them to Rotorua on Saturday. No idea what the prizes even were, Think we did ok, but its lost in the fog of time. This sadly does not happen enough now in my humble opinion. When you attend events in the future, remember that stores have to pay for the venue, the prizes, and the people to run it. If you want support from Hasbro for NZ Magic events then you have to buy Magic in NZ, not singles from overseas (they count as sales in the country that cracked the packs to generate the singles) so think twice before making any purchase. There are hidden costs to ever transaction, but it is your money, your choice. With some of the other challenges in my life right now, I feel I will no longer be in a position to travel to see all of you who I have spent a great part of my life hanging out with. Hopefully you have as many fond memories of our time together as I do. I will still be around my shop down here in Christchurch, so drop by and say Hi if you like, hopefully I will be in-store when you visit. Finally I need to publicly thank my wife Angela for all her support over the years, without her I dont think any of my life would have turned out as well as it has looking back. So with a heavy heart, I bid you farewell, Christopher Williams Humble Magic Addict
