Thanks everyone for the comments and well wishes....I want to put something in perspective about today.... I dont always wear a helmet...in fact I rarely do when Im at school. UGA is pretty bike friendly and I never feel crowded for space on the roads on campus.... BUT... Today I wasnt hit by another car....I want run off the road. I simply stood up to accelerate quickly from a light and my chain slipped. I was leaning forward for leverage and when it slipped I promptly went over the handlebars and face first onto the street. This happened about 100 feet from the City of Monroe Police Department, where 2 officers were standing and heard me go down with a thud. They ran over and helped me sit up....for 5 minutes they said I was awake, but completely unresponsive. I wouldnt speak, my left arm kept jerking out ,and I wouldnt make eye contact. The EMTs showed up around then and they asked me questions to which I had completely incoherent responses. I had no idea where I was or why I was there, and didnt remember anything about the day before. It was then they decided to take me to the hospital..... Heres my point....I HAD my helmet on...and I still got a concussion (pretty sure) and stitches on my face. My head hurts like a migraine and I look back and am terrified at what happened.... I went back by Monroe PD to see my bike and helmet...which is broken. I talked to the Officer on the scene and he said if I hadnt had the helmet on I would have been lucky to have my story end with Life Flight.... Where your Fing helmet....I know I will now....always. Learn from my mistake and wake up call...please.
