Thanks for adding me Nancy. I read your posting about the new book you are writing and you wanting to put in a chapter about actors making their own work with their own projects. I thought Id share mine with you. Ive been performing my own one-woman show since Nov. 2011. Its called A Lost American in Germany renish-solo.de . It covers my life growing up in a strict, conservative Catholic family in PA and how I felt from the age of 5 like an alien in my family to the reason I ended up in Germany and my challenges being an alien here too. The show is like life - it has many funny moments but also very moving, tragic moments. The show is a combination of genres; comedy, drama, theater, improvisation, interactive and musical because I sing and have a guitarist. I do the show in a combination of English and German but the audience decides which language is the primary language. Every show is different. I had my premiere in Cologne in Nov. 2011 and performed in various venues there until I found a place to regularly perform in 2012 and 2013. Through the show website and through advertising that the theaters did, I was found in the internet by an organization for foreign women looking for a female artist (foreigner) who had a one-woman show that dealt with the theme of integration in Germany, cultural differences etc. They were having an awards ceremony and my show was perfect for it. Its called MIGRADONNA - der Preis fuer Starke Frauen. I performed the show in Berlin, New York and outside Phila. in 2012 too. Then a theater festival in Stuttgart found me in the internet too. Its a multicultural festival called Made in Germany with artists who are foreign but call Germany their home. That was in November 2013. Through the show Ive gotten a new agent in Berlin and representation in the UK who are also producers. I will be hosting a new talk show for them starting this year. It does pay to be creative and create your own projects and get it out there in the net. Im on my third year of the show and the UK company will be bringing my show to the UK, will be filming it and airing it on their internet tv station too. Im also developing a school version of the show too. I had the opportunity to perform it last year to a group of 300, 10 & 11th graders outside Cologne. THAT was an interesting experience! I integrated the show and the experience into their English language training. This has been an amazing journey for me. I can highly recommend to any actor/singer/artist to take the plunge and create something of their own. Each person has a story to tell!
