Thanks for all the neighbors and friends who have sent good wishes and offers to help. Here are the details so I can explain a few hundred times less. Was mowing the yard Friday afternoon, standing on the sidewalk and pushing the mower up the hill and back. I stumbled on this utility box and fell over backwards, pulling the lawnmower over myself. It sliced through my sneaker and the end of my big toe, so I lay there in shock. My neighbors were very helpful, bringing me ice and calling the ambulance. Methodist kept me for two nights; I went to surgery Saturday noon where the doc cleaned it and folded tissue over the bone. As you can see, it is now half the size of my fist. The two middle toes were broken but straight, so did not need pinning. I chose crutches as the walker called out elderly to me; I can hobble around a bit on my own. Answers to FAQs: - Yes, Im on heavy pain pills, so it doesnt really hurt right now, except when I bump it. - No, Im not driving right now though hope to by the end of the week. - I go to the doctor next week, and will then get a smaller bandage. - I did read the newspaper Saturday but even that took a lot of concentration. Instead I watched six months worth of TV. Did you know that there is almost always an episode of Law & Order running? - Yes, I kept the sneaker and will post a photo sometime. - Yes, I could use help getting around some. Thursday morning is a NTARuPT program at 2900 Live Oak, about LGBTQ teens and pregnancy. Yes, it is a significant issue. Next week is doctor visit to DeSoto. Did ask the doc: Will I be able to do the tango? They all said yes, but declined to trim the other foot so I could wear pointy-toed shoes. I should be able to get a discount on pedicures.
