Thanks for nominating me, Megan. Don, Altariq, and Daniel, you have 24 hours to take up the challenge or donate 100 smackeroonies to alsa.org/donate. Since I dont have 100 dollars and its understandable that not everyone is actively aware of what the challenge is for, heres the rundown on the subject taken from the website provided by the ALSA, please read all the way through: ALS was first found in 1869 by French neurologist Jean-Martin Charcot, but it wasn’t until 1939 that Lou Gehrig brought national and international attention to the disease. Ending the career of one of the most beloved baseball players of all time, the disease is still most closely associated with his name. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Motor neurons reach from the brain to the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the muscles throughout the body. The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually leads to their death. When the motor neurons die, the ability of the brain to initiate and control muscle movement is lost. With voluntary muscle action progressively affected, patients in the later stages of the disease may become totally paralyzed. ALS can and does lead to death. It is also slow and painful. Imagine losing the ability to move your limbs, living the rest of your life continuously withering, and after possibly waiting for a miraculous recovery at some point during the process, you die shortly thereafter. Harsh, dramatic, however youd like to see it - you want real? ALS, amongst Ebola, amongst Depression, amongst other illnesses and diseases (physical, psychological, and emotional) that some are stricken with (some to no return) is real... Happy Icing! #IceBucketChallenge #StrikeOutALS
