Thanks for sharing, Donna Y Ford! EDUCATION ... on my mind, heart, and soul (as always)!! As I prepare for a new year of teaching in higher education, and as I contemplate on what I want students in my classes to learn and take to heart and practice, I am ever mindful of my responsibility to make a difference. The majority of my students are White females; the majority of those NOT succeeding are Black males and then Black females. And there are issues with our Hispanic males and females. There is a racial and gender divide/clash here. But I DO believe that educators can (MUST) increase in their cultural competence and commitment to justice/equity. And I will work with my non-White students to take on the status quo and to believe they also make a difference. I want to (MUST) improve their social justice meter. I want to decrease their racial biases and prejudices. To not seek this goal is a form of educational malpractice IMO. So here you go. At minimal, this is my goal and desire for ALL of those in education-- at all educational levels -- teachers, administrators, counselors, psychologists, nurses, secretaries, etc. I DO MEAN ALL !!
