Thanks for the love ESPN Radio West Palm! We’re not done with lists. How about an All-Star team of the best major leaguers in Palm Beach County and Treasure Coast history? C -- Charles Johnson (Ft Pierce Westwood) -- Considered one of the greatest defensive catchers of his era, and bolstered the Marlins to a 1997 World Series title. 1B -- Andy Abad (Jupiter) -- Had a cup of coffee in the majors, but played 16 years of minor league baseball, and now manages the Diamondbacks Low-A team in Yakima, Washington. 2B -- Danny Klassen (John Carroll) -- Born in Ontario, Klassen migrated to the Treasure Coast, and saw some time in the early 2000’s with the Astros and Diamondbacks. SS -- Dick Howser (Palm Beach HS) -- A two-time All-Star in the bigs, and has a stadium (FSU’s baseball park) and a college baseball trophy named after him. Died of a brain tumor much too young at age 51. 3B -- Chris Stynes (Boca) -- Played a lot of different positions in his 10-year MLB career, but we will put him at the hot corner. Once stole three straight bases in an inning. OF Dante Bichette (Jupiter) -- 14 years in the bigs, four-time All-Star, 2nd in MVP voting in 1995 with Rockies (.340 average, 40 HR, 128 RBIs). OF Rick Ankiel (Port St Lucie) -- Famously flamed out as a pitcher, but very solid seven year run in the field. OF Whitey Platt (Palm Beach HS) -- 11 seasons in the majors, including a smoking .349 average in 1942. Also managed the now defunct West Palm Indians. DH -- Jarrod Saltalamacchia (Royal Palm Beach) -- “Salty” has not quite lived up to his first round pick potential, but we’ve carved out a place for him in our lineup after his 25 HR season in 2012. SP -- Rick Rhoden (Atlantic) -- 151 wins in a 16 year major league career, and was one of the best hitting moundsmen of all time. RP -- Joe Grahe (PB Gardens) -- The one true closer in Palm Beach county, saving 45 games for a three year span.
