Thanks for the rules Dave Ruel. one of the reasons I havent been that active here was b/c I wasnt sure what this group was about in terms of what to post. Just seemed liek a lot of self-promotion So Im Ted Ryce. Feel free to add me if you like. Ive been a Non-jobber for 15 years when I decided to quit a job I hated and went into personal training. Now, after 15 years of training hundreds of people, including celebs like Robert Downey Jr, Ricky Martin and CEOs of major companies, ive decided to transition out of training and into education. So I started 2 podcasts/online businesses. One is a health, fitness and personal development podcast for men. The other is a business to help fitness professionals be more successful. Heres a few of the top lessons and some book recommendations that I think may help you with your Non-job. 1. Learn business Ive read too many people complain about money and they just want to do what they have passion for. Awesome. But if you dont make money you have a hobby...not a business. so learn basic business skills like managing your money, marketing and sales so you can sell you passion to help other people. Read E-Myth by Michael Gerber 2. Deliver value Instead of trying to GET from people....GIVE value to people instead. Nobody gives a shit that you want their money. Too many people focus on how to get money from people instead of how to solve peoples problems in a way where theyd be crazy not to hire you or buy your product. 3. Learn to communicate Build it and they will come may have worked decades ago. But now you have to go out there (online or in person) and communicate who you are and what youre offering in a way that connects with people. Join Toastmasters, take a public speaking course and/or read Talk Like TED by Carmine Gallo 4. Become an expert Work on your craft every day. Im in fitness and spend a shitload of time and money to learn from the best people around. Whatever area you want to have a non-job in, seek out and learn from the top people in that industry. 5. Be Authentic If you havent trained hundreds of people like I have, then dont say you have. If you havent made money in the stock market dont say that you have. The truth will come out eventually. Instead, if youre a novice in something then OWN it. I love what Steven Lamb at Nerd Fitness does. Ive trained way more people than him and learned much more about exercise than him...but hes got a bigger following than i do. He owned who he was and where he was on his fitness journey and hes more successful and reaching more people than many of the fitness professionals who have been in the industry for longer. Im not great at writing (or else Id have a blog lol) but i hope this helps you on your non-job journey. Feel free to ask question and Ill do my best to answer.
