Thanks for your comments on the question posed which likened the single-parent family to a cancer growing in America. I rethought about this last post and decided to change the title because becoming a single-parent is often not by choice, and; while over the last decade the single-parent family has become more common, it is symptomatic of greater societal evolutionary change in public perception and policy which impacts marriage and the traditional nuclear family negatively. There are a plethora of societal issues which needs to be addressed i.e. divorce; people having children out of wedlock and losing sight of the importance of marriage; a grandparent having to raise grandchildren, etc. Perhaps these are the root causes of the cancer spreading and the result is more and more single parent families.
