Thanks nephew, Dave Fransen of The Dalles, OR, for posting this. I was at the Dedication of The Dalles Dam by Interior Secretary Douglas McKay when the first destructive explosive detonations of rock riverbed formations were set off creating high geysers of Columbia River water and killing thousands of fish which lined the banks and sloughs for days afterward. Celilo Indian students were then attending Petersburg Grade School at the time [surnames include Edmo, George, Stahi, Crow.] Generations in the family of the heart-broken Chief Tommy Thompson were in attendance with him and the former Oregon Governor, Secretary McKay.
