Thanks to Bill Cook who provides the lighting expertise for the musicals at South Portland High School for posting this note last night. And for SP Lacrosse parents/coaches - pass along the thanks of a handful of Grumpy Old Men, please? Bill wrote - Well, another SoPo High School musical is wrapped. And once again, the kids continue to amaze me. And for some of them, “kid” seems an inappropriate term. These are mature, gracious, kind, considerate, talented, loving young men and women. And when you have the pleasure of meeting their parents, it just falls in place, and you simple think, “Ah…well that makes sense.” Good job parents! And a nice NEW thing this year at strike happened. Replacing the Orchestra Pit Cover is a tedious, back-breaking job of lifting and flipping and lowering HEAVY flooring panels into place, as others maneuver them while half bent over underneath them. This job is usually done by some Grumpy Old Men who are not getting any younger, or stronger. Enter the SoPo Boys Lacrosse team. While I understand that this help was coordinated by one of the aforementioned GOMs, the fact that 6-8 of these young gentlemen, not associated with the musical, volunteered to give a few hours of their time, and their young and strong backs, to do the muscle work while the older GOM did the brain work…well…thank you. I’m going to assume that back at these young gentlemen’s homes, there are parents who, if I met them, I’d think “Ah…well that makes sense.” Good job parents.
