Thanks to Dog Lovers of Trout Lake group for flagging this article. Some citizens in Victoria have been advocating for the same thing. Vancouver has a very complex situation since transit is managed centrally through multiple jurisdictions. Question #10 from our candidate survey: Many dog owners do not have reasonable walking access to off leash areas in their neighbourhood. In order to access off leash areas, responsible dog owners require a vehicle to transport their dog to a designated space. Many dog owners do not have access to a vehicle. Currently,only fully accredited service dogs or dogs that are in enclosed carrying cases are permitted on public transit. Owners of larger dogs are put at an immediate disadvantage. Using public transit is also a more greenway to travel and is in line with Vancouvers greenest city goals. Would you be open to helping support an effort to allow reasonable access for dogs on transit? Discuss.
