Thanks to Dr. James Ryall for nominating me for the #ALSIceBucketChallenge. This campaign has raised great awareness about ALS (or motor neurone disease). My research group, the Basic and Clinical Myology Laboratory, in Physiology at The University of Melbourne searches for treatments for Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), another devastating neuromuscular disorder. This Sunday, August 31st, the Muscular Dystrophy Association will be hosting its annual fundraising #MDAtelethon ‘Show of Strength’ for research into muscle diseases. ALS and DMD are part of the MDA’s research program. My lab has been generously funded by the MDA for over 15 years and we are very grateful for their support. Please give generously to the MDA so that we can continue searching for treatments and cures for these terrible diseases. mda.org
