Thanks to Jason Mashak for this link. For the moment, there are 2 contradictory interpretations which I can think of in relation to this news: 1.Germany is signalling a rupture in the symbolic politico-normative order, signalling that it has finally lost faith with American exceptionalism and American hegemony. This would not be so much a world-changing development as simply an indicator that the world has already changed.... 2.Germany is going after the Cheney-gangs war-criminals in a hollow attempt to paper over its continuing blind support for the United States (also genocidal) current executive branch. Is it perhaps too easy, too obvious and too hollow to press the Cheney-button now? How serious or how principled a challenge to American exceptionalism is this? Is Germanys support for the United States position in relation to Russia/Ukraine the elephant in the room, or conversely, is Germany drawing a line in the sand for the Americans, signalling that its support will not be unconditional in future? Either interpretation seems plausible....
