From Ramzy: Dear Friends, I am dedicating my next, and 8th, full Marathon to the youth of Gaza. My previous marathons were all dedicated to Palestine, but this time around, the hurt and pain caused by the Israeli war, and the untold devastation it left behind, makes the need greater than ever. And while Gazans, in their never ending resilience, continue to rebuild their homes, mosques, churches, hospitals and schools, millions of people around the globe continue to support them, if not by deed, then by word and prayer. The children of Gaza, war and all, will continue to dream of a better future. They study in shattered schools and do their homework guided by the light of a candle. They refuse to be disempowered, no matter how enormous the odds. And they also continue to play, because they ought to, and because playing even if around the ruins of their homes is too an act of collective resistance. My last Marathon fundraiser (thanks to a very generous donation from Viva Palestina Malaysia) went to fund women projects in Gaza. This time around, I am running the Seattle Marathon on November 30, to raise money for and awareness of a wonderful project in Gaza: 7th annual Rachel Corrie Football Tournament in Gaza. The tournament is an investment in the youth of Gaza. It brings together kids around a common call, mending the bonds of their communities, reaching out to one another and uniting in a festival of optimism and hope. I really hope you support my run.
