Thanks to Will who originally shared this. Way back when I was a teacher, I was constantly struck dumb by the way kids minds work. Then I had the pleasure of meeting the parent of a student- whose children were extremely bright - and stubborn, but thats a different story. The bottom line was, this father was a neurosurgeon, and one afternoon on the playground, we watched thirteen year old boys doing things that made me shake my head. The father just smiled and nodded, and then said, You know, they act like this because their brains arent fully developed yet. The synapses dont fire right, and thats just a scientific fact. I was surprised. And asked for more information. Turns out, brains dont mature until youre in your mid twenties- So it shouldnt surprise me when young people do or say things that show their immaturity. This article though- well it just made me ask, why on earth is an adolescent boy running for office anyway? Whos going to vote for him, no matter what his beliefs are? Does someone with no experience of life and decision making belong in government? Am I just an age-ist asshole because I think you ought to have some education and knowledge- some ability to decide more than what color socks to wear - before you run for public office? Does he own his own home? Pay taxes? Has he ever bought groceries? Health Insurance? Does his mother still do his laundry?
