Thanks to a kind doctor, I received instruction on how to operate an EEG (electroencephalogram). There is hope centered around curing mental disorders including autism, ADD, OCD, depression and anxiety by regulating brain waves, specifically slower frequency waves. An EEG monitors brain activity in the four main lobes of the cerebral cortex. Electrodes are applied to the scalp using a conducting gel and a time lapsed recording of potential differences between electrodes is monitored by a computer. Brain waves are distinguished by frequencies, which range from beta (high frequency) to delta (low frequency). People with head trauma have hope. We also discussed one of the oldest forms of medicine, essential oils, and their beneficial effects on the brain. Perhaps some investigating into memory enhancing foods will come next.
