Thanks to a law I passed in 2006, Louisiana received $1.1 million today to help restore our wetlands and protect our coastal communities from storms. The law, GOMESA, established a long-term revenue stream and to provide Louisiana with a fair share of the revenues generated from the energy produced off our working coast. For too long, we’ve had the plans, but we haven’t had the money. But we must pass the FAIR Act to immediately accelerate the payment date of expanded revenue sharing, lift the arbitrary $500-million cap and extend this partnership to all coastal states—no matter what type of energy they produce offshore.
