Thanks to all my Facebook friends for your likes and positive comments. Yes, as artists we would paint without recognition, but strokes are a very rewarding bonus! Today is day four of my five day artists challenge and I would like to nominate Birgit McMullen, an expressive painter whose bold use of color results in canvases of pure energy. Birgit not only paints, she is also the art specialist at the Gateway Prepatory Academy where she teaches and influences a whole new generation of young artists. The work I selected today is from another of my favorite places to paint, the Escalante area. I am working on paintings for an exhibition this year at the Anasazi State Park Museum and have included color studies of the stunning white cliffs around Boulder, Coyote Arch in the Escalante drainage and Powell Point under a threatening storm. Cant wait to get back over the mountain and see what it all looks like after the next snow storm!
