Thanks to all of you who voted for a Democrat in California. We can now look forward to all property taxes and perhaps all rents to increase in the near future. Today Saturday June 15, 2013 The Democrats passed ACA 8 (Blumenfield) which attacks Propositions 13 and 218 by lowering the required vote threshold to approve bonded indebtedness for public improvements and facilities from 2/3 to 55% which will pave the way for more and higher taxes. ACA 8 sets a bad precedent by watering down Proposition 13 since bonds and special taxes do not count against Prop. 13’s one percent cap. Any decrease in the two-thirds vote will add hundreds of dollars a year to an average property tax bill. This will only serve to increase homeownership costs just as California is beginning to emerge from the worst foreclosure crisis in 70 years. Not only that, it will entice local governments to request other exceptions to fund more services by exceeding the one per cent cap. All of this serves to erode taxpayer protections in the Constitution. ACA 8 passed 54-25 Wake up America!
