Thanks to everyone that participated in Rota Rugby Club’s first Olympic Games! You guys really went all out embracing your countries - with costumes, singing, and even food (maple syrup)! Some of the highlights: Canada adding syrup to their beer for the bobsled race; some serious hip-checking in the Biathlon to push opponents out of the way (India - Rebecca); Mexicos hat dances and songs; Germanys athletes arriving with a theme song; Andorras facts on the back of their uniforms; and pretty much everyone during the Hurdles.... especially Canada - you guys were a mess! hahaha And I have to say, after 6 hours of drinking, you all did exceptionally well at the balance beam - we should have thrown in some harder moves for you to perform! Overall Winners: Gold - Andorra Silver - Germany Bronze - The Horde Best Team Uniforms - Mexico (and honorable mentions to so many others - you guys looked great!!) Individual Event Winners: Bobsled: - Gold – Japan - Silver – Andorra - Bronze – USA Biathlon: - Gold – Ireland - Silver – Germany - Bronze – The Horde Curling: (plus the Ice Cube Tray Relay tie-breaker) - Gold – Somalia - Silver – India - Bronze – Italy Hurdles: - Gold – Andorra - Silver – Mexico - Bronze – Japan Balance Beam: - Gold – Tie: Andorra and Ireland - Silver – Japan - Bronze – Mexico Discus: - Gold – Germany - Silver – Somalia - Bronze – The Horde We had 7 teams that were DQ’d from event(s) for various reasons, and that definitely effected their overall scores. I have double checked all the scores and calculations and the rankings are correct! A huge thanks to my officials: Ashley, Angie, Paige, and Jean Luc - and Stephen Berkey for your impetus and help. You guys are amazing! NEXT EVENT: Summer Camp Crawl - In July or August, exact date TBD. This will involve teams, beer, chiringuitos, and games on the beach!
