Thanks to everyone who came out tonight to (le) poisson rouge for Hellbent and Antibalas performing the music of John Lurie. It was sublime, beautiful, hilarious. John Lurie, his brother (and fellow The Lounge Lizards co-founder) Evan Lurie were in the house along with a whole lot of heavy musicians and equally rigorous music lovers. The Strange and Beautiful Festival celebrating John Lurie and his music continues at NYCs Town Hall on Saturday featuring John Zorn, Flea, and Lounge Lizards family including John Medeski, Evan Lurie, Anton Fier, Billy Martin, Michael Blake, and Calvin Weston. It will be heavy. As for us...the horns will be playing on Saturday at Central Park with The Roots at the Global Citizen Festival with JAY Z and others. More big news to come.
