Thanks to her lovely daughter Kylas nomination, Jillian is the lucky winner of the Your Mum prize-pack. I wish to honour my Mum, Jillian. When my daughter was seven months old my husband left. My mum has picked up the broken pieces and has been the thread that has helped me weave my new life. In the early days she would (among lots of other things) take my daughter in the early morning so I could sleep in, now, she drops off and picks up my daughter from preschool so I can work, she cooks dinner for us, makes the best porridge in the world and my daughter simply adores her. She has provided, wisdom and strength for me and my girl. I am so very grateful for her. I tell my friends watching her in action with my daughter, now two and a half is like watching a masterclass in parenting. When my sister had chemo for breast cancer during the Christchurch earthquakes Mum resigned from teaching after over 25 years in a decile one South Auckland school to help my sister with her two children then aged four and eight. Mum, Nana, Nanny and Jill; our go-to, our hero. She is our upstairs. She is our help. She is our friend. She is my cup of tea and my daughter’s treasured Nana. My Dad’s bestest friend; our wonderful Mum.
