Thanks to the sponsorship of BG (ret) Ernie Brockman (NCARNG), i had the pleasure of sharing breakfast with Citizen Airmen of the 145th Airwing this morning at the Carolinas Freedom Foundation Breakfast. This is a tremendous event that I have had the pleasure of attending for the last 4 years. It is a call to patriotism by the Carolinas Freedom Foundation and it is a call that rings loudly. Aside from remembering the veterans of previous Wars and those that still wear the uniform, they commemorated the 35 anniversary of the Iran Hostage crisis. The descendents of the one of the hostages, as well as, one of the actual hostages were recognized for their patriotism, valor, and sacrifices during the 444 days of inhumane treatment at the hand of their Iranian captors. Upon the conclusion of the ceremony, I have come to thoroughly enjoy the chance to meet so many veterans in attendance. This morning, I had the chance to personally meet with WWII veteran Jack Lemons and with Iwo Jima veteran Tom Farebrother. They are great Americans from our Greatest Generation. Meeting with members of the Chapter 664 of the Purple Heart Association gave me a chance to Welcome Home some veterans of the Vietnam War that recently commemorated the 50th anniversary of the conclusion of that conflict.
