Thanks to your signatures and actions on the ground, the proposed - TopicsExpress

Thanks to your signatures and actions on the ground, the proposed amendment to the RTI Act has lapsed. Last year, the Government was planning to amend the RTI Act to ensure that political parties do not come under direct public scrutiny. Thousands of us spoke about it everywhere, we called our MPs and demanded they take a stand, we protested and we stalled the bill. The proposed amendment has now lapsed. Political parties now cannot exclude themselves from the Right to Information. This is a huge victory for you, me and all fellow Indians. However, there is one more step that needs to be taken. Currently, none of the national parties have appointed information officers to respond to voters’ queries. Now that the elections have been announced, we have very little time. If political parties appoint information officers soon, we will be able to get information about our candidates before we vote. We have seen that the political parties cannot ignore our demands. Sign this petition and forward this email to your friends asking them to join the campaign. We, the people of India, deserve to know as much as possible about our political parties, and those standing for election, before we cast our votes. Sign the petition. Thank you for taking action for our country, Aruna Roy, Anjali Bhardwaj and Nikhil Dey via Change.org
