Thanks very much to the person (Emma Thompson?) who sent out a Twitter alert to get some help for an injured hedgehog that she had found at Homestead Park, York. The hog looks like she has possibly been injured by a garden fork. Emma Farley collected her and spent ages taking off fly eggs and keeping her hydrated using Lectade. Emma brought her to me last night so I could get her to the vet at the RSPCA this morning. She had not moved all night but started to rally and had a drink of water before I took her for her appointment. Graham from Minster Veterinary Practice examined her carefully and gave her an antibiotic injection. The short video shows her shortly after arrival with me when her breathing rate was very rapid. She has calmed down now and has started to eat. She weighs 605g but is very thin with a concave underneath. She should probably weigh about 850g to be the right weight for size. Thanks very much to Graham for the expert care given to the hedgehog, as always.
