Thanksgiving This is the time of year when Americans are reminded of the ritual act of Thanksgiving that they learned from the Natives of this country. For many folks throughout the country this is a time of celebration, gatherings with friends and family and a time to acknowledge and give thanks for all their blessings. It is also a good time to be cognizant of the fact that we are here (European white folks) because we subdued Native tribes in what is now referred to as North America. We are enjoying the lavish abundance of the land and recourses because we were strong courageous thieves. So, while giving thanks and offering blessings, let us please include the people that suffered the most in the most extreme ways possible for us to celebrate Thanksgiving. While giving thanks over the next few days please note the People of the Nations (natives) suffer dearly during the winter months. Warm close and firewood are in huge demand for all prairie People as is healthful foods to provide the needy through Native food banks and social organization for distribution-primarily to the Elders; old folks hat often live in remote conditions on the Res. Winter is harsh on the plains and much needless suffering can be staved off by caring souls that want to help.
