Thankyou for allowing me to join. For those of you that have not seen my posts on the Calontir FB page I bring greetings and a invitation. On Sept. 6th barely a little over 3 hours from your barony there will be a Regional War Practice sponsored by the Barony of Grey Niche. For those that know nothing about the Castrum it is the premier Roman Reenacting Site in North America. Until this time the SCA was not allowed to hold events on the site. Well, things have changed and a wonderful relationship has now developed between the SCA, the Romans and the owner. The site can be rented out except for a some blackout dates. To showcase the site this practice will be held for free at the Castrum. Carl, the owner and builder of the site is allowing camping for Friday and Saturday night. The site has two modern flushies and showers. Water is provided by city water through the roman fountain in the Vicus/Village. The fort is 175 x 150ft with 2 gates and 4 towers. The vicus has a Capana/eatery with a large grated fire pit and a real roman oven. There also is a tavern building. A celt camp with longhouse and almost completed roundhouse is a half a mile away. I hope that you all will come down for this weekend. Whatever happened to the Niche/Three Rivers War? Now you have the finest site in the SCA for friendship and warfare.... think about it :P. There will be much more than fighting. There will be rapier! A&S... Classes on longhouse construction and thatching/Celtic show making/Roman Jewelry Making/ Bread making and using the Roman Oven/ Period Fire Starting/Archery/History on the Roman Legionairres and Marines with armor and weapon display/ Other classes are in the works. Lunch will be a fund raiser to help the building of the amphitheater to be completed by March. A donation jar will be set up to help off set the cost for prepping and opening the site for the day.
