That Christians, as a community of forgiven sinners, should not - TopicsExpress

That Christians, as a community of forgiven sinners, should not be ashamed to confess their sins and those of their forebears before their non-Christian neighbours, is, surely, an expectation that the gospel demands. To identify the truth of the gospel with the moral superiority of Christians would be to turn the gospel on its head. For it is with a flawed and faithless people that the Christ has stooped to pitch his tent and link his name. Any sharing of the gospel within a pluralist world, after two millenia of Christianity, has to begin with a humble acknowledgement of betrayals of the gospel by the church itself. These betrayals have to be identified concretely, not covered over in generalizations, and they will vary from one cultural context to another. ... It is only such a church, radical in its obedience, that makes known the beauty, truth and power of the Christian message to the world. - Vinoth Ramachandra Faiths in Conflict? (p. 168 and 171)
