That crash in Copper? Here are the deets....16-18 ft. out on a dub 12 and missed coming back in by 8. The right side of his body tried to stay on the deck and he collapsed his rib cage. His left kept going down the wall of the pipe. His tailbone was the first thing to hit, splitting the difference on the ice-edge of the deck and right wall. I wanted him to get up and be OK so bad I couldnt move. But TYW and GK kicked off their skis and ran up the flat bottom, thinking he was done. By the time they got to him he was standing, and the adrenaline was pumping enough for him to make another lap on the chair, trying like hell to get ready for qualies. He collapsed in the athlete tent at the top of the pipe with his TM and coaches. Less than 24hrs later he was on a stationary bike (with a mASSive pillow), pushing his body to heal quicker. XRays and 2days later the US Team docs said he couldnt do any more damage to his tailbone, and if he could bear the pain he was OK to ski. Ive been in that awful place where you have to treat inhuman amounts of pain as just another sensation....but to come back in 5 days to grab your first Dew Tour/Oly Qualifier podium was for me, a lesson on another scale of focus, determination and desire. Thanks to 4bi9 Media for the edit and capturing the essence of Lymans Road to Sochi.
