That frustrating feminist moment when youre at a wedding reception and Blurred Lines starts playing, and you get asked why youre not dancing to this song: You could, of course, launch into a social commentary about how this certain song normalizes and even glorifies rape culture, and perpetuates the concept that its charming and cool for men to be overly aggressive to the point of harassment and persuasion instead of acting with respect and an understanding of consent. Theres also the issue of record companies releasing a song that has a beat which is so maddeningly catchy, it could have the most awful or offensive lyrics in the world, but it will still sell because its so catchy and its just a song. Its a clever marketing ploy, no? But its a wedding and everyone is having a great time and the drinks are flowing - so instead you just smile and say you want to rest your feet and will gladly continue to bust a move in a little while. --Rithu
