That huge power plant on the salt flat at CA state line just came online. Ivanpah is expected to produce enough energy at peak to power 140,000 homes while reducing carbon emissions by some 400,000 tons per year over its 30-year service life. It is a thing of wondrous beauty and technological sophistication. Not a photovoltaic solar plant where mirror convert heat into electricity - this is a huge dish of light where mirrors focus the sun into a single salt ore which heats up water into steam. Steam then turns turbines into engines of progress.
