That is almost double what I am making doing transcription - which I have done for 30+ years, and it used to pay very well. Then technology caught up with us (Dragon voice recognition) and the hospital outsourced our jobs to save money and we are now getting paid 4 cents a line. For that 4 cents a line, we have to know medical technology and terminology, review all reports done by voice recognition and fix them, know which meds are what dosage (15 mg versus 50 mg) because voice recognition gets it wrong so often, deal with doctors of all dialects and accents, fix THEIR mistakes, like when they save humerus when they mean femur (it happens more than you think), plus keep up with all the latest technology. (i.e. CyberKnife procedures). And for that we get paid 4 cents a line - 5 cents a line if we work the midnight shift. AND I recently heard that our company is going to send 95% of its work overseas so they dont have to deal with Obamacare.
