That moment after you have a pleasant phone conversation with someone on a difficult subject and they thought they have hung up the phone (maybe they hung up the receiver but not all the way so didnt really disconnect the call). Anyway you can hear them muttering with angry disdain towards you and the situation after the call. It happened once when I was going through a separation. My husband and I had pleasant phone conversation, but after he thought he had hung up I could hear him referring to me in the most awful way to his co-workers with them responding accordingly.. how awkward the next time I ran into them. Today I again had a similar experience. After what I though was a pleasant conversation I heard myself being referred to in a rather unflattering way when the person thought the call had disconnected. I must be such a ditz thinking things are okay while people are building up frustration/anger/dislike towards me. Actually, that has happened a lot over this long life.... think Im doing a great job at something only to walk in one day and find myself out of a job or be told there were complaints about me or the job I did...... oh well, 50 or 100 years from now will it really make any difference?
