That was the January of 1994. Aishwarya Rai had lost to Susmita Sen at the Femina Miss India pageant; a fire had broken out in a mine in Asansol, claiming 55 lives; Queen Elizabeth had broken her wrist after falling off a horse; and Michael Jackson had been accused of molesting a 13 year old boy. A lot was happening around the world, but none of it had my attention. I was interested in only one person. “What do you think? Does he like me?” I asked Shweta, seeking assurance. Of course, he does. His face proclaims it,” She replied in a supremely confident voice. Guys look at girls all the time. It doesn’t essentially mean they are interested.” I said. Haven’t you paid attention to the way he looks at you? With so much of intensity in his eyes!” She said, emphasizing the last part of her sentence. I looked at you. Your eyes were exactly where I always wanted them to be. Upon me. Those days were amazing. I was flying into the heavens. Every moment seemed like a beautiful dream. I was unable to understand why a stranger had begun to matter so much to me. Why was I reacting so intensely to him? Why was I spending a big chunk of my time outside my apartment? Why had my studies taken a backseat at a time when it should have been my prime focus? The initial infatuation was fast turning into something deeper. Was it love? # You & I (Part-1: The First Love) :-)
