That whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be firstborn among many brethren. Romans 8:29. [F]oreknowledge and predetermination cannot be equated. God does not predetermine what He foreknows. Rather, foreknowledge is only one compartment, we might say, of omniscience. With foreknowledge God knows what will actually come to pass. But with omniscience He knows not only what will come to pass but also what might come to pass; omniscience includes the woulda, coulda, shoulda. *** This reveals some important things about God’s knowledge. When we come to a fork in the road with options A, B, and C, God already foreknows what choice we will make — option B, for example. But in His omniscience, He knows what would come to pass if we chose option A or option C. He does not predetermine our choices. He just knows what will happen if we choose any of the options before us. The choice is ours, even if He knows ahead of time what that choice will be. This distinction is essential for human freedom, the capacity to choose. Anderson, Dave; Reitman, Jim (2013-09-24). Portraits of Righteousness (Kindle Locations 4866, 4887-4909).
