Thats been a bit of a day then. Pete and I this morning and a new routine with the chage over of grazing. The old boys seemed OK with the changes , ate their breakfast and off they went, though far more sedately than yesterdays pelt for freedom! Interesting to watch the actions and interactions between Jim and Beau. Beau has poor eyesight now, Jim acts as his eyes ( though read on further down and youll see Jim aint the quite the saint he appears to be!) he leads him and gets concerned when Beau goes ahead, like he knows there may be dangers for a visually impaired brother. This is more than herd dominance. We just got finished at the ever so wet, muddy and frankly messy sanctuary, a quick nip to Countrywide for supplements and fencing stakes, and back home when the rain came again, scuppering original plans to have a quick breakfast then go do more. I got on with filing and mOnday office work instead :/ It eased off about 2pm giving me enough time to get on and do the changes. So what have I done this time? Fencing extensions thats what :D So Willow is now in with Chadd and Larry but their grazing is now half of the whole meadow from top to bottom, a long long stretch of land. They have the benefit of a thick holly hedge and a very sheltered corner butting onto the apple orchard below. Willow was greeted in a friendly manner and all 3 were happy to eat their bit of chaff together this evening and clear off to graze as a mini herd when the buckets wer clean. They have the big new shelter and plenty of hay to chew on. This means the other side can grow on now, extra grazing for when Jim and Beau eventually come off the winter grazing. By the time Id done this fencing, fed them, hayd them and poo picked them time was cracking on. Now I could hear Beauneighing his head off and then Jimmy the mean and nasty appeared at the yard gate, hed only gone and left old Beau on the new grazing! Poor old codger couldnt see to work out wher eto go to get back and to confuse him even more Jimmy was neighing back at him which in hearing distance was about 100 yards away and directly ahead as the crow flies, trouble is in between is a house, barns, stabling and yard! So because Id got so much time spare - NOT! - I ended up traipsing all the way down the green lane and halfway up the winter grazing to guide dog the blind horse back, who actually realised at that point that oh yes, I can get back! barged straight by me and zoomed off back up the track and in! coughing and gasping for air after this enforeced exercise I smartly shut the gate to the yard behind them and they went in to the barn and their stables for tea! Id still got the ponies field to poo pick yet. time is deffo not on my side foradded extras like this now. It was almost dark by the time I got done. We have heard today that sadly one of our loan horses has passed away. Our thoughts are with his previous owner and his long term loaner of 10 golden years, he was 29 and had been loved so much. Full epitaph will come later this week. We also have two of our loan ponies in need of a fairly urgent loan or foster home. They are fit and healthy 22 year olds, able to do some hacking and live together and would like to stay together. Sadly their loaner has health issues or otherwise they would be going nowhere. We are also thrilled to say that the two ponies, Hope and Jasper are now in their new home and together. They are both oldies and should have some lovely years together ahead. Our most grateful thanks go to Judith for the initial steps and collection, To Ann and Lesley for taking a Sunday completely out of their weekend to transprt them from Judith to their new home near Lampeter and to Rosemary for organising this superb new home for these guys and to Patti for giving them this home. You guys are all deservant of a big shiny medal each. We cant do this job without folks like these and many more who support us, stand by us, foster for us, loan from us and keep us from going completely loopy during the difficult times :D Finishing now on a bittersweet note. Tonight while poo picking in the little meadow where the ponies are now I was thinking of my lovely Paris,it was her field after all. As I looked up the field a brilliant shaft of sunlight broke through the dark clouds and lit up the golden oaks and burnished the reds and bronzes of leaves along the treeline, the raindrops glittered like a million diamonds on the leaves and above a buzzard called.....and for a second Im sure I saw her, my beautiful girlie, standing as she always did, by her bucket, full and happy and ready for the night ahead. I miss her so much, Id give anything for one more day, but perhaps shes in everything I see where she lived too. Goodnight P sweetheart, take care.
