Thats it Gobind. Go all out! No need for sympathy from anyone. Drop dads charge? Gobind says no thanks By Kow Gah Chie Apr 25, 2014 Prior to his death, Karpal Singh was convicted of sedition but the Tiger of Jelutong remained defiant as ever. And in tribute to his fathers unyielding courage, Gobind Singh Deo rejected the proposal to ask the attorney-general to drop the charge. This decision drew a thunderous applause from some 3,000 people who attended Karpal’s memorial in Kuala Lumpur last night. They tried to break him for years, but they couldnt. He was a man who stood up to defend the constitution and was convicted for that, Gobind said choking with emotion. We dont need favours from the AG, we dont need his sympathy, we will not back down, we will fight to the end, as Mr Karpal would have fought till the end, he added. The High Court found Karpal guilty of uttering seditious words against the Perak sultan and fined him RM4,000, putting at risk his parliamentarian status. Karpal, the MP for Bukit Gelugor, and his aide Michael Cornelius were killed in an accident on April 17. Speaking about his father, Gobind said Karpal fought hard to uphold justice. His father was confident that the opposition would make it to Putrajaya, but it did not happen, he said, adding, But that does not mean it cannot happen. And, it does not mean well stop the fight here. For him, we must fight on. We must make sure we go all out in the next election, so we can see an end to BN and a new government in Malaysia, he said to prolonged cheers, accompanied by applause. I am certain that all of you here... Will help me in taking my fathers message across. We must be strong, the fight will go on, jangan main-main (dont play), the tiger is on, he added. Earlier, Gobind shared his heartbreaking last moments with his father. My father met me in Kuala Lumpur before he left for Pulau Pinang, you will never know that this is the last time you meet someone, so youre never ready to lose that, he said. DAP was forced to switched the venue to the Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall, which can only accommodate 2,000 people, after receiving a last minute notice from the Education Department refusing permission for the memorial to be held at a school hall near the city centre. Thousands were standing for hours as there were only 500 seats allocated to leaders and representatives from NGOs, embassies, political parties and the elderly. They were holding white chrysanthemums and portraits of Karpal. Some in the crowd broke into tears, hugging Gobind upon his arrival.
