Thats the funniest thing about the whole new-agey angst-ridden mix - TopicsExpress

Thats the funniest thing about the whole new-agey angst-ridden mix it all up and call it good stuff that gets all the attention. We are all displaced from unbroken traditions. (Which were the rule throughout human evolution.) I was struck really hard by this while watching an autobiographical movie about a young Chinese man, taking over the herbal healing/shaman role in his local community. Traditionally, his father and grandfather would take the ox, with a cart containing all of his herbs on board. Now, because young man has so many more patients, he travels by bike and carries far fewer herbs. In the old way of healing, they carried a basket for all the dung that they found as they traveled to the sick individual. When they reached the home of the patient, even before seeing the patient, they would empty the dung basket into their compost pile ritualistically to feed the gardens of the sick individual. They understood that many sicknesses can come from depleting the earth (soil) supporting our food source. I dont have time to do what I was taught to do. was all the man had to say about why he cannot continue the tradition. We are all separated from tribal, sustainable and pragmatic ways of making our living and livelihoods supportive of the biosphere, pretending that we are not is fundamentally just wishful thinking. That said, the spirituality of pagans has many positive impacts on both ritual and behavior between rites by impacting our awareness of the biosphere as part of us, a living organism that includes humans as just one species.
