Thats tough. I would go nuts if the police came into my house and then shot and killed my dog for showng signs of aggression. Of course he showed signs of aggression. He was protecting his property which you cannot hold a dog responsible for showing aggression while protecting his own property. However, if the police felt a child was in imminent danger, the police have a right to enter the property and take action without obtaining a warrant. You have to weigh it I guess. But then again it would be interesting to know what information and was it reliable the police had to enter the residence without a search warrant. I bet it could be challenged. And another point I just have to note -- although I know its not real life -- On Criminal Minds, there has been multiple occasions where they have to immediately enter a residence without a warrant and encounter a viscious-acting dog, and I find myself saying, Shoot the damn dog, and they actually go above and beyond not shoot the dog, and not once have I seen them feel necessary to kill an animal. Why can they make that extra effort not to just react and kill the animal? I know its just TV, and having been attacked by a dog -- its the scariest thing that I have ever experienced -- Im sorry, Id many times in that case have had to shoot the dog out of fear. First reaction is, I cant believe he shot the dog, but you have to actually put yourself in his position and try to be fair. Now, if it was a poodle, that would put it in a whole different perspective. lol
